It's suppose to be 21 Sturday morning so I'm waiting until Sunday to brew. I don't know what yet but I'll be doing 11 gallons of something. It will be 11 gallons for me or split if anyone wants to join me. -BeerKen

I'd love to but I've got a major outdoor water line leak that I have to fix. The kind where you have to first dig a hole big enough to work in before you can even work on repair. Happy brewing.
Ken, maybe we can finally hook up. I just picked up a couple of different malts to experiment with.
one pound each of the following: Simpson's chocolate Simpson's Black malt Simpson's Golden Briess caramel 90L
and several different english and american ale yeasts.
I still have some Amber LME, and plenty 'o' Honey as well.
Most of the recipes I was looking at only called for 1/2 pound of the dark Malts, so we could maybe double up on a Hybrid Imperial stout if you'd like. But I am game for anything.
I'm up for that. What's early for you? I'm usually up by seven but it's still going to be cold that early. I can also start up the hot water before you get here and have it ready. My mash tun can only hold 10 gallons which might not be large enough for a double batch of a BIG beer. I'm interested in a braggot if you don't have too much of that allready. We could mash enough grain to go with the honey. How much DME does your recipe call for. I can make the conversion to grain.
I'm not familiar with those grains. Are they a special breed or just the manufacturers name?

Ken, I think they are just the manufacturer's name.
7 is early for me on sunday, maybe mid-morning say 10ish?
I am always down with brewing braggot, I have about 20lbs of honey left which is enough for for a double batch of high gravity Braggot.
I haven't used DME, just LME, and in a strong batch it would be about 4lbs per 5 gallons.
So for 10 gallons it would be 20lbs honey, and around 8lbs LME. We can hop it or not, the sky is the limit. I have plenty of champagne yeast I usually use for one with that high a gravity. This would be more on the mead side of Braggot, or we could go 1/2 and1/2 grain to honey ratio for an ale style braggot. Either way I am happy. I leave it up to you, I have done both, and I like it all.
I did a 5 gallon grain batch last weekend. Started at 9:00 and was finished at 2:45. If we were doing a 10 gallon batch that would add maybe an hour for the additional boil time. I was thinking of getting started early and having the mash done and be at the boiling stage when you got here at 10 so we wouldn't be at it all day. You know my enthusiasm is over the top for all this and I hate to be a wuss but the weatherman lied. My thoughts are that it's just going to be too damn cold with a low of 21 that morning. We'd be brewing out on the porch for hours at mid Jan. temps. The stuff you brought to Luckadoos party is a major contest submission and I am SO anxious to share a brewday and get some of that braggot aging in my closet. If this is a bummer and you want to try it then lets go for it. -k
